**Evolution of Brine in Lake Urmia from 2007 to 2019**
Project Leader: Dr. Razieh Lak
Year: 2022
Hydrogeochemical monitoring of Lake Urmia has been conducted since 2007, along with an investigation of the evolution of the lake brine under two conditions: supersaturated brine and playa. Sufficient scientific evidence was obtained through the study of sedimentary cores from the lake bed to reconstruct the paleogeography, paleoecology, and paleoclimate of Lake Urmia during the Holocene, as well as to investigate the causes of water-level decline. Scientific documentation was also provided demonstrating the role of improper water-resource management in the lake basin in the desiccation of Lake Urmia.
