Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Emphasizes Deep Exploration and the Use of Advanced Technologies in Earth Sciences

The Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade emphasized the importance of developing deep mineral exploration and utilizing advanced technologies in Earth sciences at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Earth Sciences Research Institute, affiliated with the Geological Survey and Mineral Exploration of Iran.

According to the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade’s official news portal, the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Earth Sciences Research Institute, affiliated with the Geological Survey and Mineral Exploration of Iran, was chaired by Seyyed Mohammad Atabak, Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, and attended by the ministry’s deputies and members of the Board of Trustees.

During the meeting, the Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade expressed his appreciation for the activities undertaken by the institute and emphasized the strategic role of the Geological Survey and Mineral Exploration of Iran and the Earth Sciences Research Institute in providing scientific support for the country’s economic development.

He identified the development of mineral exploration, enhancing knowledge of Iran’s geological potential, and mitigating the impacts and consequences of natural hazards as among the key and influential missions of the Geological Survey and the Earth Sciences Research Institute. He also stressed the need to strengthen and expand these activities through the application of advanced technologies.

Referring to the importance of understanding the country’s mineral potential in advancing the mining sector and securing the raw materials required by industries, Atabak emphasized the need for the Geological Survey and Mineral Exploration of Iran to give serious attention to deep exploration and called for the targeted utilization of the country’s scientific, technological, and specialized capacities in this field.

He further noted that advancing knowledge and technology in the field of Earth sciences and transforming scientific and research findings into practical information can play an effective role in identifying new mineral deposits, reducing investment risks, and creating the conditions necessary for the sustainable development of the mining and mineral industries.

At the meeting, the Head of the Earth Sciences Research Institute presented a report on the institute’s performance, research achievements, and forthcoming plans. Subsequently, the institute’s overarching strategies and budget framework were reviewed and approved by the members of the Board of Trustees.

The meeting also emphasized the need to strengthen the link between research, exploration, and the actual needs of the mining and industrial sectors, as well as to make greater use of the capacities of the Earth Sciences Research Institute to provide scientific and technological support for the country’s development programs.
