Introduction to R Programming and RStudio for Ocean Data Analysis
This course serves as an introduction to the R programming language and the RStudio software environment for exploring, cleaning, organizing, analyzing, and visualizing data in a powerful and efficient way. It is specifically designed for Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) who are beginners in R; therefore, no prior programming experience is required.
Throughout the course, participants will work with real-world oceanographic datasets (physical, chemical, and biological) as well as fisheries-related data, making it easier to understand and apply the concepts covered.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

Become familiar with the R programming environment and RStudio.

Use R for common data-related tasks, including data import, cleaning, transformation, and visualization.

Generate meaningful descriptive statistics and informative data visualizations.
Target Audience and Prerequisites
The course is intended for Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs), including:

Undergraduate students;

Graduate students (Master's and Ph.D. candidates); and

Researchers planning to use R in their academic work.
No prior knowledge of R is required.
The current edition of the course is specifically targeted at ECOPs from, or based in, Asia.
